Inexpensive Car Insurance

When you’re searching for the least expensive car insurance, you should know that insurance companies don’t tell you everything you need to know about car insurance. They want you to buy the policy they say is right for you and just accept their word for it. Here’s my biggest piece of advice… Do your own research! You really need to sit down in front of a computer and learn all there is to know about car insurance before you choose which pieces you need and which you can live without.

For example, if you have a fairly old car that isn’t worth very much, you don’t really need collision coverage. The cost of the coverage itself would be more than your car is worth anyway so it’s a waste of money. Be smart, do some research.

Here’s a few tips for getting the best prices and discounts. I hope it helps.

  • Re-evaluate your policy every year. Each time it comes due for renewal, review it to make sure what you have still meets your needs.
  • Get more than one quote. This seems like a no-brainer but most people just pick a company they see on TV and go buy some insurance from them. You need to compare several different quotes (of the same type and coverage) from several different insurance companies.
  • Get a higher deductible. The higher your deductible, the better your rates are. Yes, you’ll pay more if there’s an accident…but at least you’re not paying for it even when there isn’t one.
  • Drop your collision coverage. This one depends on the value of your car. If your car is worth more than the coverage costs over a period of a couple years, then keep it. If not, drop it.
  • Ask for special discounts like accident-free discount, good student discount for students, multi-car discount, & home & auto discount. There may be others depending on the company. Make sure you ask for them.
  • Research and know what you’re getting. Don’t get duped because you didn’t read the fine print. This stuff is serious business and these companies mean it.
